Potentially benefit from government incentives and support schemes

Is my business suitable for Wind Power generation?

Wind power is particularly well-suited for businesses with high and consistent electricity consumption throughout the year such as warehouse distribution centres, data centres, or heavy industry. You’ll need sufficient land or roof space for turbine installation and ideally be situated in an area with higher wind speeds — open, exposed, or elevated locations.

FAQ’s

How do I determine if my business location has sufficient wind speeds?
Wind speed is a crucial factor in determining the viability of wind power for your business. As a general guideline, an average wind speed of at least 5m/s is required for a wind turbine to work efficiently. As part of the initial consultation process, JLM can help you assess the wind speeds at your location and the most suitable locations for turbine installation.
Can I sell surplus electricity generated by my wind turbine?
Yes, businesses can often sell excess electricity generated by their wind turbines back to the grid through programs like the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) in the UK. This provides an additional revenue stream for your business, particularly during periods of low energy consumption or high wind speeds.
What are the maintenance and running costs associated with wind turbines?
Wind turbines generally have a lifespan of 20-25 years, with some parts requiring replacement during this time. JLM offers regular maintenance checks as part of our support service — helping to prolong the working lifespan of your solution, as well as carrying out inverter replacement or battery storage replacement if needed.
Do I need planning permission to install a wind turbine at my business premises?
Planning permission requirements for wind turbines vary depending on the region and the size of the system. In some cases, small-scale turbines may be considered permitted developments, while larger systems typically require planning permission. JLM can guide you through the relevant planning regulations and assist with the application process.
